Hi I’m Dr Lara Valdes-Postula. Let me tell you about who I am, and how I got here.
I was raised in New York City and in beautiful Tenafly New Jersey. I had a sweet, and slightly crazy dog named King as a child, and later had my own cats Bandit and Tobias, both of which were my best friends for 14 and 18 years respectively. Horses, unfortunately, were not a part of my young life.
"I became a Human Chiropractor and practiced in Northern California and then Austin Texas"
That changed when I was about 12, on a family vacation to the islands, when I was introduced to Ginger...a sweet mare that I fell head over heels in love with. And as I grew up taking subways, hopping in cabs, and driving the bridge and tunnels of the greater tri-state area, I never missed the opportunity to stop to look at a horse galloping in a meadow, or to drive to the country to meander the grounds of hunt clubs to admire their beauty and grace. I felt a connection with horses that I couldn’t explain, and vowed that one day, I would find the time and the resources to cultivate my passion.
After graduating from college in NYC, I left for California to earn my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles. During my studies, I always made time (and put aside money) to take riding lessons. I LOVED the freedom I felt when on a horse. It was intoxicating and I just couldn’t get enough.
I became a Human Chiropractor and practiced in Northern California and then Austin Texas, prior to giving birth to my daughter in 2008. When I become pregnant with my son, I chose to take a break and stay at home to raise my kids. It was an interesting time, but by 2012, I was ready to get back in the saddle (so to speak).
Animal Chiropractic by then had become far more mainstream than I could have imagined, as owners and trainers were seeing incredible results from it. A friend of mine, Dr. Jay Komarek, an almost 40 year veteran in the world of animal chiropractic, went from treating people, to focusing mostly on animals. After little thought, I decided to go back to school to take a grueling 7 month certification course in Dallas to adjust horses, dogs and cats. This course is only open to Chiropractors and Veterinarians, as clearly, a strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, neurology and biomechanics are a prerequisite. It was a massive challenge, for various reasons, but I graduated at the top of my class, and learned an incredible amount about my 4 legged friends.
In early 2014 my husband David and I moved the family to Park City. It was a new beginning and it was time for me to ramp it up again and bring the incredible benefits of chiropractic care to the dogs, cats and horses of this beautiful area. Our family has just one pet...the sweetest, most loving, 10 year old border collie mix named Buddha. And I ride horses just as often as time will permit these days. I don’t compete, as I think at this stage in my life my daughter will likely be the equine competitor in the family. But horses are very much a part of my life.
Helping animals feel better, perform better and stay healthy has been incredibly rewarding. Somehow I turned my passion into a career and I couldn’t be happier with how my choices have turned out. If you have ANY questions for me, please call or email. I love to talk about what I do, and how I can help you and your animal live a happier, healthier life.
